Sir I’m a student in Mumbai, studying in 12th. My exams are coming near, but I can not study as I’m more into performing arts like dance. Please help me to do well in my exams. Thank you.

You are now in the 12th standard and the examination is very near. No doubt your favorite art is very interesting, but, this examination alone decides your future. All your friends will go for higher studies in different fields, whereas you will be left behind. Taking all these into consideration, give rest to your arts for sometime and put your whole mind to the studies. Take some private tuition, if needed. But, determine to do well in the examination. Wish you all the best.

May be such a moment in life helps one to assess for himselef (or herself) how much dedication he has for his chosen path. If one is really interested in a specific field, be it an art, science or sports, he/she should pursue it with love and dedication and sure he/she won’t be “left behind”. May be some paths don’t yield as much money as as others but if one is really dedicated to his chosen path, he will not starve for sure. In fact, most lofty achievements have such a courageous story behind them. Unfortunately, in our country, most parents want their children to follow the crowd and be an engineer or doctor and get a safe living. But for someone whose heart is elsewhere, this creates a big void, once he/she reaches the middle age. You will have all the necessities of life but a sense of meaninglessness, a sense of not living life to your full potential and not doing what was natural for you.
Of course, in this particular case, the request was “Please help me do well in my exams”… so the advise given by Swamiji is perhaps quite apt.
