Handing Over of Ramakrishna Sevashrama (Bhate’s House) to the Ramakrishna Mission

We are happy to inform you that the house in which Swami Vivekananda stayed for the first 3 days in October 1892 (Bhate’s house) has been gifted to the Ramakrishna Mission. Sri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Sevashrama which was the private spiritual organization possessing this house has donated this entire property to the Mission.

The handing-over ceremony was held on 3rd February 2007 in the presence of many dignitaries who were involved in the activities and the develoment of the Sevashrama as also many Sadhus and a large number of devotees.
The Mission has now made this the Town Centre of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Fort, Belgaum. This Centre will be a memorial building of Swami Vivekananda and will be used tofurther the activities of the Mission. Swamiji’s walking stick, the cot and the mirror that he had used duringthis stay at Bhate’s house are preserved here.
