Can ladies chant the Gayatri Mantra regularly?

Definitely it can be done, as we have evidence that women underwent Upanayana ceremony during the Ramayana period.

Reverd Swamiji,
Pranams.
We are shaivits by birth, ( followers of Basavanna). Somehow myself and my son came into contact with Ramakrishna math. Both of us have taken ramakrishna mantra deeksha. Earlier, both of us have undergone the samskara called “linga dharana and Shiva nama mantropadesha” by virtue of birth in a shaivait family. Now I have some questions :
1. Should we stop chanting of shiva nama mantra.
2.Should we not have Linga on our body ( A shaivait should always have it on the body till the death, as you may know it. ) Should we remove it and put in the cupboard ? My son has removed it and put it in a cupboard.
3.Should we not practice any of the nitya karmas that should be done by a shaivait ?
I remember to have read in “Sri Sharadadevi jeevana ganga” that Mother telling a devotee that one should not give up chanting the old mantra. One should chant atleast 10 times.
Thanking you and expecting a reply I offer
Pranams at you feet.

Dear Sri Shashidhar,
If your son-in-law cannot find time for doing full sandhyavandanam let him definitely repeat the Gayatri mantra as many times as possible. He can do it even while travelling.
I am sure, your Guru has definitely said that what all the religious practices you are practising accordig to the tradition should not be given up. I am happy that you are still having shiva-linga on your body. Usually the modern people dispose off the container and keep the shiva-linga alone in their prayer hall. It is better to wear it and do at least the puja twice if it not possible to do thrice. Repeating of the Panchakshari mantra given by your earlier guru is a must. After repeating for certain times you may do the japa of the mantra given by your guru.
Thanking you
Yours in Service
Swami Raghaveshananda

Dear Ruchi Rawat,
According to the scriptures the best time to practice Japam (chanting of mantra) in order to get maximum benefit is the ‘Brahmamuhurtam’ i.e when night ends and day starts at about 4 am in morning. Similarly in the evening 6 pm is the time. Of course it is not always practical, so chant the ‘Mantram’ whenever you find time & as much as you can. It is good If you can chant even while working also. By constant practice you can achieve this even though it looks difficult in beginning
