Feeding of more than 100 poor school going children every day

These children go to the local government schools. Their families are very poor to give them a good meal. Knowing how even brain growth is affected by malnutrition, we arrange to feed them with milk and snacks once a day. When they come to eat, they are taught simple disciplines like cleanliness, orderliness & are taught some simple prayers and chanting, etc.

Monthly expenditure is Rs. 25,000/-.  That comes to around $20 per day.

Sponsoring education of poor students pursuing higher studies

This scholarship scheme has been initiated to provide monetary aid to needy and meritorious students of senior secondary schools and senior secondary schools, undergraduate, graduate and post graduate studies in the state of Karnataka. The scholarship is paid out of an endowment created for this purpose – the interest accrued on this account is utilized for the scholarships.

The scholarship amount varies from Rs. 1,000/- to Rs. 5,000/- per year. Exceptional cases may be evaluated for higher disbursements. These scholarships are given out to students irrespective of caste, creed, gender, etc. The amount can be utilized for tuition fees, hostel fees, study material or other expenses incurred by the student.

Along with the scholarship amount, useful books of Swami Vivekananda and our other publications were gifted to the students to help them in their character building and personality development.

During the years 2004-05 and 2005-06, 315 and 202 students were awarded scholarships amounting to Rs.2.82 lakhs and Rs.5.2 lakhs respectively. In this year of 2007, around 250 candidates were awarded scholarships.

Donations for this scheme are most welcome. Only donations about Rs.50,000/- will be taken as Corpus Fund. Smaller amounts will be directly utilized for awarding scholarships.

Help to the physically challenged

There are about 9000 physically challenged persons from below poverty line in Belgaum District. As a regular programme and in a phased manner, we wish to do our bit in helping all of them by distributing aids to these persons.

In the first such distribution programme we distributed 50 Tricycles and 100 Wheel chairs at an estimated expenditure of Rs. 5 Lakhs on 27th of January 2006.

Annual Distribution of clothes, rugs, etc. to the poor and the needy

Since the inception of the Ashrama, this welfare activity is being carried on. Woollen blankets, bed-sheets (chadars), towels, sarees, dhotis, etc. are being distributed among the students and the poor and the needy people every year.
